Today Varde Municipality has got 21.000 inhabitants. The Danish government has decided to make a structural change in the public administrative system with fewer and stronger municipalities and to give these more of the public assignments. As a result Varde Municipality from the 1 th of January 2007 will joint together with Blaabjerg, Blåvandshuk, Helle and Ølgod Municipalities to New Varde Municipality.
New Varde Municipality will cover an area of 1.256 km2 and become the 5. biggest municiplaity in Denmark. New Varde Municipality will have approximately 50.500 inhabitants and the main town will be Varde.
When counted in farm production New Varde Municipality will be the second biggest municipality in Denmark. There will be more than 1150 farms and more than 60 farms have got a special permit according to European standard. Within the municipality there will be more than 100 fur farms.
New Varde Municipality do think that it is important to work together both on a regional, national and international level. When it comes to environment we have to think and work together in a global scale and therefore we have chosen to contribute by being a lead partner in the project of ecological use of pig waste in the area of Dafeng Municipality.
Mayor Kaj Nielsen from Varde Municipality states: Varde Local Government has chosen to be lead partner of the project because we have got a good knowledge in the area of ecological pig farming and want to transfer the know-how. It has been hard work for the local farmers and authorities to reach the environmental point we have reached today and therefore we want to support our Chinese partners to take this step into the future without making some of the mistakes we have made along the way. On the other hand we hope to play an important role when technology and know-how shall be exported form local companies or companies in the region to the Chinese market.
In the project the Environmental Department in New Varde Municipality is assigned to transfer know-how and training for Chinese public administration in environmental regulation, inspection and implementation of administrative system for live stock farming with special focus on ecological pig waste treatment and environmental production. Environmental Chief Poul Sig Vadsholt and environmental specialist Lars Waldermar is attached to the project.
